Microblogs for China’s Valentine’s Day: All By My Lonesome

Yesterday is China's Valentine's Day or Magpie Day. It's a big event for Chinese lovers. 

But the Magpie Day has become a reluctant moment for many singles. While sweet lovers show their love pictures through weibo, many singles express their 'admiration, jealousy and hatred' towards those happy couples. Besides, many of them expressed their disappointment and depressed mode in Mappie Day.

A public weibo ID called 'weibo little picture collection' commented, "What's the big deal for Valentine's Day? It is Valentine's Day only if you acknowledge it. It's an ordinary Thursday if you refuse to acknowledge it!! "

A netizen called 'Qiqi Spring' commented "today is the Mapie Day. Hope all girls who are taller, fairer and richer than me go to the hell. "

A netizen called polka_dots said, 'Thank God. The Magpie Day finally passed. The only gift I want is an extra egg for luch. However, it turns out I have no egg for lunch at all. I cooked one myself today.'

Besides these complaints and lonely people, a video titled with 'the most fanatical proposal in Shanghai' has been widely spread online.

In this video, a girl in white wedding veil proposed to her boyfriend. The girl said in excitement:"we've been together for 8 years. I don't ask you for a car nor an apartment. I only want you!" An onlookers can't help crying out:"If you refuse to marry her, I will." The boy hesitated for a while and finally accepted the proposal. The happy couple hugged。

From waste leather to drug capsules: Toxic gelatin factory exposed in Hebei

The latest item on the toxic food list in China is drug capsules made of industrial gelatin extracted from bleached waste leathers. Such capsules can cause cancer due to high level of chromium resulting from leather tanning processing. As of now, China has banned the sale of 13 drugs and arrested 22 for allegedly making and selling capsules made from discarded leather. China raises rare earth exports

18 May 2012 Last updated at 00:00 ET China said 10,680 tonnes would be added to the quota on top of 10,546 tonnes initially issued China has allowed more companies to export rare earths, increasing the quotas set by the government, after they met environment standards. It has increased rare earth export quotas by 10,680 tonnes, the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday. The announcement brings the total quotas issued so far this year to 21,226 tonnes. Rare earths are a collection of 17 elements used in products from smartphones to hybrid cars. China, the biggest miner of rare earths, capped exports at 30,184 tonnes last year. It said the quotas were designed to conserve resources and protect the environment. Beijing is embroiled in trade disputes with the US, Japan and the European Union over its control of rare earths.
