Discovering China’s UFOs

As the world moves closer to December 12th 2012, the final date of a 5,125 year long ancient Mayan calendar, China's media has been increasing its coverage of UFO sightings around the country. Although scholars agree the date has no association with cataclysmic events occurring in 2012, rumors have claimed we are approaching the end of the world and with this, speculation of an Alien invasion. This video sets out to investigate whether these UFO sightings have any credibility.

China Focus - Chinese Editor's Suicide Sparks Censorship Debate

Last week, Xu Huaiqian, the editor of the Dadi (Earth) publication run by the Chinese Communist Party's People's Daily, committed suicide. It's being reported that Xu had a history of depression, but his death has sparked debate on China's internet about press freedom and censorship. Before he died, he said in an interview that, "My pain is I dare to think, but I don't dare to speak; if I dare to speak, I don't dare to write, and if I dare to write, there is no place to publish." Xu's death also came days after Burmese authorities lifted some of their draconian press censorship. Censorship in China works differently than censorship in Burma, but are Chinese authorities likely to loosen censorship at all? And why did Xu's death hit home for so many in China? In a country with millions of opinions but no free press, how can people find the truth?

China raises rare earth exports

18 May 2012 Last updated at 00:00 ET China said 10,680 tonnes would be added to the quota on top of 10,546 tonnes initially issued China has allowed more companies to export rare earths, increasing the quotas set by the government, after they met environment standards. It has increased rare earth export quotas by 10,680 tonnes, the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday. The announcement brings the total quotas issued so far this year to 21,226 tonnes. Rare earths are a collection of 17 elements used in products from smartphones to hybrid cars. China, the biggest miner of rare earths, capped exports at 30,184 tonnes last year. It said the quotas were designed to conserve resources and protect the environment. Beijing is embroiled in trade disputes with the US, Japan and the European Union over its control of rare earths. From waste leather to drug capsules: Toxic gelatin factory exposed in Hebei

The latest item on the toxic food list in China is drug capsules made of industrial gelatin extracted from bleached waste leathers. Such capsules can cause cancer due to high level of chromium resulting from leather tanning processing. As of now, China has banned the sale of 13 drugs and arrested 22 for allegedly making and selling capsules made from discarded leather.
