- Gun-dealing syndicate destroyed, 7 arrested
Police in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province busted a gun-dealing ring and seized seven suspects and more than 6,000 guns from two underground workshops and two warehouses, Xinhua reported today.
Police received a tip-off in March that an online dealer sold model guns via the Internet and they found the guns are lethal and are banned by China's gun-control laws.
The dealer, surnamed Chen, was caught on March 26 in Shenyang, capital of northeastern Liaoning Province, and police traced the source of his guns to a supplier surnamed Wang, who had sold Chen about 320 guns. Since Wang sold Chen the guns at very low prices, police believed Wang was close to the manufacturers.
Wang was nabbed on April 11 in Shantou, a city in southern Guangdong Province. Police uncovered more than 5,400 guns in an underground workshop in the city. Wang admitted that he had purchased about 800 guns from a local factory since August 2010.
Police raided the factory and captured several suspects on April 25. The factory boss surnamed Xu confessed that they purchased gun parts from 42 factories and individuals across the country between August 2011 and April 2012 and sold more than 20,000 guns to 47 buyers, including Wang, for about 5.7 million yuan (US$911,579).
