Let people share prosperity by income distribution reform

How to balance efficiency and fairness is an important topic. If a country wants to maintain sable development, it should try to realize this balance through income distribution reform.
The State Council's economic meeting send a clear message that the overall reform plan in this area will be made in the fourth quarter of this year. It catches attentions from foreign media as well, because through this income distribution reform the world will know how China will transform its economic growth model as well as how China will carry out its further reform in the future.   
The past experience of many developing countries indicates the authority must solve the income gap when the economy of the country develops to certain level. That some countries developing fast from 1970s to 1980s cannot maintain the development momentum now is just because of their failure in addressing the wealth disparity issue at home.
How China will avoid the middle income trap and let the middle-level income group become the majority of the nation also concern if China can become a real economic power in the future.
On the other side of the coin of income distribution is the social justice, which gives the reform political implications. The social stability of China will be threatened by a widening income gap. If China can successfully accomplish this income reform, the government will gain more supports from its people to carry on further reforms in the other areas that is of vital importance to China's stability and sustainable development.   
The income distribution reform is not only a challenge for China but also the world. Even the developed countries, like the United States, are also confronted by this knotty issue. In 2010, the top 1 percent US families' income growth accounts for 93 percent of the national total. It is predictable the income gap is a big challenge for the next US president.
China has demonstrated its ability in feeding 1.3 billion people and lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty. The world will also see China has the confidence and ability to unite all its nationals to carry on China's development through effective income distribution reform.

From waste leather to drug capsules: Toxic gelatin factory exposed in Hebei

The latest item on the toxic food list in China is drug capsules made of industrial gelatin extracted from bleached waste leathers. Such capsules can cause cancer due to high level of chromium resulting from leather tanning processing. As of now, China has banned the sale of 13 drugs and arrested 22 for allegedly making and selling capsules made from discarded leather. China raises rare earth exports

18 May 2012 Last updated at 00:00 ET China said 10,680 tonnes would be added to the quota on top of 10,546 tonnes initially issued China has allowed more companies to export rare earths, increasing the quotas set by the government, after they met environment standards. It has increased rare earth export quotas by 10,680 tonnes, the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday. The announcement brings the total quotas issued so far this year to 21,226 tonnes. Rare earths are a collection of 17 elements used in products from smartphones to hybrid cars. China, the biggest miner of rare earths, capped exports at 30,184 tonnes last year. It said the quotas were designed to conserve resources and protect the environment. Beijing is embroiled in trade disputes with the US, Japan and the European Union over its control of rare earths.
