Landmark building should respect the public’s feeling

There is an upright iron hoop called "Ring of Life" in Shenfu New Town, Fushun city, Liaoniang province. Costing over 100 million yuan, the huge ring is 157 meters in diameter and 50-storey in height. Decorated by 12,000 LED lights, the landmark building uses 3,000 tons of steels and is known as unique in the world. It is said that the huge structure is only a landscape building.

If seeing the "Ring of Life," Zelanian director Peter Jackson may be regretful that he missed a wonderful landscape landmark for his movie "The Lord of the Rings," and the tiger, a character in "Madagascar 3," will say that it is a piece of cake to run across it. However, people obviously do not understand the care and thought of local government. When its pictures were uploaded on the Internet, they immediately led to a series of spoofs, such as "cosmic portal" and "entrance for aliens to invade the Earth," and also triggered the PS upsurge in the Internet.

Steve Jobs said, "People do not know what they want until you give it to them." The famous Eiffel Tower had incurred numerous criticisms from design to completion, but now it is in the ranks of famous buildings in the world. It needs time to prove the beauty of architecture, like wine. It is suspected of seeking quick success and instant benefits if blindly refusing the new buildings.

From waste leather to drug capsules: Toxic gelatin factory exposed in Hebei

The latest item on the toxic food list in China is drug capsules made of industrial gelatin extracted from bleached waste leathers. Such capsules can cause cancer due to high level of chromium resulting from leather tanning processing. As of now, China has banned the sale of 13 drugs and arrested 22 for allegedly making and selling capsules made from discarded leather. China raises rare earth exports

18 May 2012 Last updated at 00:00 ET China said 10,680 tonnes would be added to the quota on top of 10,546 tonnes initially issued China has allowed more companies to export rare earths, increasing the quotas set by the government, after they met environment standards. It has increased rare earth export quotas by 10,680 tonnes, the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday. The announcement brings the total quotas issued so far this year to 21,226 tonnes. Rare earths are a collection of 17 elements used in products from smartphones to hybrid cars. China, the biggest miner of rare earths, capped exports at 30,184 tonnes last year. It said the quotas were designed to conserve resources and protect the environment. Beijing is embroiled in trade disputes with the US, Japan and the European Union over its control of rare earths.
