Mission of a Chinese mother
Ms Mai, 94, was born in Dongfeng town of Zhongshan city, Guangdong province. She has a hard life. She experienced the Anti-Japanese Invasion War (1937-1945) when she was young. Her husband and eldest daughter died at her middle age. She has taken care of two mentally handicapped sons for more than 70 years, who have not even called her mom once. Ms Mai says she is a mother most of her life and she hopes "I can be a good mom". Ms Mai's shabby house locates beside a brook in the north of her village. She is old but healthy. Her sharp eyes and ears ensure that she can do most housework at her 94. She not only needs care for herself, but also her two mentally disabled sons.
Her eldest son is A Fu, 71, little son, A Man, 68. These two old men look much younger than their ages. Their only expression to the others is a big smile, childlike smile.
Ms Mai was born in 1918 and orphaned at 7. She was captured by Japanese soldiers in the Second World War and escaped for her life luckily later. She married her husband 17 years older than her. All village doctors said her two sons could not survive. But she does not think so and started looks after her two sons till today.
Ms Mai is helping her son to trim his nails.
