Baidu mobilizes 600,000 Union partners to provide free lunches to needy children

Each day, countless underprivileged schoolchildren go hungry during the lunch hour. On June 1st (China's Children's Day), Baidu and its 600,000 Baidu Union partner websites will kick-off the"Baidu: One Hour Free Lunch Charity Campaign" in hopes to motivate public awareness and participation in the effort to feed needy children. This undertaking is expected to become the largest online charitable advertisement in Chinese history.

Tomorrow from 11:00 to 12:00, online users can simply click on the Baidu homepage link "You send a message of good wishes, Baidu donates one lunch meal," or click on any of the campaign advertisements displayed on any of Baidu's 600,000 partner websites, to reach the campaign page and send blessings to the underprivileged children. For each message collected, Baidu will donate a lunch meal to a child in need in the online user's name.

"Free lunch" is a public program first organized in April 2011 by Deng Fei, more than 500 journalists, various domestic media outlets and China's Social Welfare Foundation,  to call for a daily 3 yuan lunch donation for underprivileged children in the country. With regards to cooperation with Baidu this time, Deng Fei says: "Baidu's 'One Hour Free Lunch' online campaign will be the largest promotional event since the founding of the program by far. Gaining the support of the powerful platforms provided by Baidu and its union partner network is incredibly exciting."

"For many children living in rural underprivileged areas, the best Children's Day present is a hot lunch meal," Baidu VP Zhu Guang said. "Baidu's mission is to help every person equally. For Children's Day tomorrow, Baidu will join hands with its partner websites to promote this innovative online public welfare campaign, so that together with online users we can send a wonderful gift to underprivileged children in time for the holiday. I hope more corporations, organizations and members of the public will join us in our effort to ensure that children of rural areas can eat well and have the energy to study well!"

Baidu Union is one of China's most powerful online union systems. At present, it has accumulated more than 600,000 in registered partner websites.
