Fire engulfs C.China factory workshop after blast

A blast ripped through a factory workshop in central China's Hubei Province and triggered a fire Wednesday. The casualties are not immediately known.

The accident took place at about 10 a.m. at a factory in the Xiannu Township of Zhijiang City. Firemen are struggling to put out the fire, a municipal government spokesman said.

Basha people Basha people belong to a branch of the Miao ethnic minority in Guizhou province and have a reputation as the last tribe of gunman. Almost every man above the age of 14 carries a gun and a knife, which they regard as a sign of bravery and honor. Fire forces Emirate Airlines jet to land in Urumqi AN Emirate Airlines flight from Dubai to Beijing made an emergency landing at Urumqi Airport in the capital of China's northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Monday after its luggage compartment caught fire. No one was hurt in the accident and the fire was extinguished soon after the plane landed at 9:08pm, the Beijing Times reported today. A fire alarm sounded when Flight EK308 was flying over Xinjiang. Passengers were told that their plane had to make an emergency landing at Urumqi Airport due to a problem with the luggage compartment. Nothing abnormal was observed in the passenger compartment. Some luggage was burnt or charred. An airport worker who took part in the firefight said the fire might be caused by the spontaneous combustion of a battery.
