Batista arrives to coach Shanghai Shenhua

Former Argentine coach Sergio Batista is autographing for football fans at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport soon after he arrived this morning. Batista is expected to be the new coach of Shanghai Shenhua Club.

Argentine coach Sergio Batista arrived in Shanghai this morning with his assistants and he is expected to sign a contract with Shanghai Shenhua Football Club soon.

The five-member coach team includes the 49-year-old former head coach of Argentina national football team from July 2010 to July 2011, an assistant coach, a physical coach and two agents.

They were greeted at the airport by Shenhua club officials, but Batista did not accept any media interview at the airport.

"After they're settled down, the club will show them around the training center and the stadium," said Ma Yue, Shenhua's press officer. "I'm not sure when the signing will take place but it is unlikely to happen this week."

Batista will not be sitting on the coach seat during Shenhua's home game against Guizhou Renhe this Sunday, the club said.

Batista was the midfielder of Argentina men's national team and won the World Cup with Diego Maradona in 1986. Batista started his coaching career in 2000 and won the gold medal of the 2008 Beijing Olympics as the head coach of Argentina.
