Student punishment photo leads to worst stories by school

A middle school of Gongyi City, Henan Province ridiculously gave three different explanations to the public in the same day, after its students were captured kneeling before the national flag in hot weather as a punishment stirring up a wave of controversy online.

First of all, at 11 a.m. of May 21, an officer of the school told the local media that the photo was a fakery, and the report was fabricated.

Then at 13 p.m., when CNTV reporter reached a director of the school, sunamed He, he said the students were actually cleaning the playground.

In the late afternoon, Gongyi City's propaganda department gave the third explanation for the school after investigating the incident: over 20 students forgot to bring their earphones when attending an English exam which had the listening test as its first part, so in order not to disturb other students during the listening test they were told to do push-ups on the playground before resuming the exam.

The middle school's principal has confirmed the third explanation, adding that they would hold a meeting to criticize the teachers involved and prevent similar punishments to students from happening again. In the same time, the principal defended the first two explanations too claiming that the two officers were not familiar with the incident.
