Bo Guagua’s Harvard apartment photographed

Photos that have been alleged to show the inside of Bo Guagua's apartment in the US have surfaced on China's microblogs, revealing that the playboy son of fallen political heavyweight Bo Xilai is a Star Wars fan and a whisky drinker.

The Harrow-, Oxford- and now Harvard-educated Bo Guagua has been the focus of intense media attention since his father, Bo Xilai, the former Communist Party chief of Chongqing, was detained by Chinese government authorities for "serious discipline violations." His mother, Gu Kailai, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering British businessman Neil Heywood, whom Bo Guagua has known since he was a child.

On April 19, a Chinese netizen going by the username "masteranpuruo" posted on popular microblogging service Sina Weibo photos of what were alleged to be Bo Guagua's two-bedroom apartment near the Harvard campus, where the 24-year-old is studying a postgraduate degree in public policy at the Kennedy School of Government.

According to the netizen, who has been identified as An Puruo, a Boston-based investor and Chinese writer, the photos were taken by a Hong Kong reporter who camped outside the apartment for three days after Bo Guagua was seen being escorted away by US officials on the night of April 12. It is not clear how An obtained the photos.

Only one of the photos showed the inside of the apartment, which was said to have been taken through a second-story window on the third day of the reporter's stakeout. The photo shows a messy living room scattered with what are believed to be Bo Guagua's personal items, including a Lego model of the Millennium Falcon and a bottle of Macallan whisky. Sony Playstation 3 video games and what appears to be a pair of female pantyhose slung over a chair were also highlighted.

Earlier reports said the seven-story "luxury" apartment featured a doorman, gym and a roof sundeck, and cost US$ 2,950 in rent per month. On April 18, the US State Department confirmed that Bo Guagua is still enrolled at Harvard, refuting rumors that he had been or was planning to return to China in light of his family's recent struggles.
