New visa policy to attract talent

A new visa category titled "talent introduction" has been added to a draft law on China's exit and entry administration as part of the country's efforts to attract talented individuals from overseas.

The draft law was submitted on Tuesday to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, for its second reading.

Pressure Point: US wants China to choke Iranian oil flow

America is piling the pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme and new uranium enrichment facility by seeking global support for its anti-Tehran sanctions. US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner wants China - the largest consumer of Iranian oil - on their side, and is pushing it to buy less from Tehran. Fire forces Emirate Airlines jet to land in Urumqi AN Emirate Airlines flight from Dubai to Beijing made an emergency landing at Urumqi Airport in the capital of China's northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Monday after its luggage compartment caught fire. No one was hurt in the accident and the fire was extinguished soon after the plane landed at 9:08pm, the Beijing Times reported today. A fire alarm sounded when Flight EK308 was flying over Xinjiang. Passengers were told that their plane had to make an emergency landing at Urumqi Airport due to a problem with the luggage compartment. Nothing abnormal was observed in the passenger compartment. Some luggage was burnt or charred. An airport worker who took part in the firefight said the fire might be caused by the spontaneous combustion of a battery. Almost every man above the age of 14 carries a gun and a knife, which they regard as a sign of bravery and honor.
